چکیده

Abstract. A comprehensive catalogue of historical earthquakes, with accurate epicentres and harmonised magnitudes is a crucial resource for seismic hazard mapping. Here we update combine catalogues from several sources to compile earthquakes in near Iceland, the years 1900–2019. In particular are based on local information, whereas teleseismic observations, primarily international online catalogues. The most reliable epicentre information comes Icelandic Meteorological Office, but this complemented technical reports, scientific publications, newspaper articles. contains 1281 moment magnitude (Mw) ?4 events, estimated completeness Mw 5.5 first years, going down 4.5 recent years. largest 7.0. Such merging data has not been done before result an earthquake map much more locations than earlier maps. also lists 5640 additional Mid-Atlantic Ridge, north 43?, both determined teleseismically. When available, proxy values computed using ?2 regression, normally surface-wave exceptionally body-wave magnitude. Magnitudes Mw?4.5 have associated uncertainty estimates. actual combined released found be consistent simple plate motion model, indicating that activity period might typical any 120-year time span. named ICEL-NMAR, it available at http://data.mendeley.com (last access: 19 July 2021).

Dynamics of mantle flow and melting at a ridge-centered hotspot: Iceland and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

The dynamics of mantle flow and melting of a ridge-centered plume were investigated with three-dimensional variable-viscosity numerical models, focusing on three buoyancy sources: temperature, melt depletion, and melt retention. The width, W, to which a plume spreads along a ridge axis, depends on plume volume flux, Q, full spreading rate, U, buoyancy number, B, and ambientrplume viscosity cont...

A hydrous melting and fractionation model for mid-ocean ridge basalts: Application to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge near the Azores

[1] The major element, trace element, and isotopic composition of mid-ocean ridge basalt glasses affected by the Azores hotspot are strongly correlated with H2O content of the glass. Distinguishing the relative importance of source chemistry and potential temperature in ridge-hotspot interaction therefore requires a comprehensive model that accounts for the effect of H2O in the source on meltin...

Copepod distribution and production in a Mid-Atlantic Ridge archipelago.

The Saint Peter and Saint Paul Archipelago (SPSPA) are located close to the Equator in the Atlantic Ocean. The aim of this study was to assess the spatial variations in the copepod community abundance, and the biomass and production patterns of the three most abundant calanoid species in the SPSPA. Plankton samples were collected with a 300 µm mesh size net along four transects (north, east, so...

Dominance of one bacterial phylotype at a Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Microbial community structure in natural environments has remained largely unexplored yet is generally considered to be complex. It is shown here that in a Mid-Atlantic Ridge hydrothermal vent habitat, where food webs depend on prokaryotic primary production, the surface microbial community consists largely of only one bacterial phylogenetic type (phylotype) as indicated by the dominance ofa si...

Feeding Ecology of Coryphaenoides rupestris from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

The Macrourid fish roundnose grenadier, Coryphaenoides rupestris, is one of the most common benthopelagic fishes on the northern mid-Atlantic Ridge. The ecology of the species is comparatively well studied in continental slope waters of the North Atlantic, but not on the mid-Atlantic Ridge, which is a central mid-ocean area of its distribution. In total, 166 specimens from the RV G.O. Sars crui...
